Summary
The article talks about Veterans day or armistice day as it was called in the beginning when it was honoring the truce of world war 1. Congress declared 11 November a holiday 1938, a year before World War 2. For many years the holiday was just honoring the veterans of World War 1 and not the veterans of World War 2 or any other American war until it was changed to include veteran from all American wars.
When the holiday was young it was mainly celebrated by parades where the veterans took part in but in later years the celebration have become more personal. For example do many people gather at monuments of fallen soldiers in a war to honor them in silence.
